In her conversation with art writer and freelance curator Gregory Volk, Bulgarian artist Marta Djourina discusses how her analogue photographic process is marked by experimentation and the exploration of the essence of light. In her use of color and black and white photographic paper, light becomes a subject matter, a tool and an object of investigation. Performative movements, objects or a combination of these elements and self-made film negatives, are traced with different light sources and recorded on the flat surface. They take place in the darkroom, the temporality of which is translated into a painterly gesture and a dynamic color composition. They can result in intimate small formats as well as monumental works up to 6 meters high. Whilst some works focus on the physicality of traces of light, others deal with the visualization and fixation of something more ephemeral.

На стенде этого годы мы обращаемся к поиску баланса между эмоциональным и материальным, между идеей и ее воплощением с помощью редких техник. В экспозиции будут представлены предметы Шарля Калпакяна из коллекции “Castle”, созданные специально для галерии ограниченным тиражом. Скамья из серии кажется хрупкой и невесомой благодаря материалам — белому ониксу и тонированному ясеню. Предмет становится символом объединения силы и хрупкости, энергий инь и ян, мужского и женского начала. На том же универсальном языке о бесконечности, рождении, космосе и начале мира говорят керамические скульптуры Томонари Хашимото с текстурами, напоминающими окисленный металл. В рамках выставки мы также покажем вневременные работы французского мастера Кристофа Делькура, графику Джона Франзена из серии “Each Line One Breath”, миниатюры Коли Дыхне и скульптуру из стали португальского мастера Руи Матуша.

The 10th edition of Cosmoscow Fair was held at Gostiny Dvor from 14 to 17 September. This year, Booroom Gallery turned to find a balance between the emotional and the material, an idea and its realization with the help of rare techniques. We were happy to present Charles Kalpakian’s Castle collection, custom-made for the gallery in a limited edition. The bench from the series seems fragile and weightless due to the materials, white onyx and tinted ash. The object becomes a symbol of the union of strength and fragility, the energies of yin and yang, masculine and feminine. The same universal language of infinity, birth, space and the beginning of the world is spoken by Tomonari Hashimoto’s ceramic sculptures with textures reminiscent of oxidized metal. As part of the exhibition, we also showed the timeless works of French designer Christophe Delcourt, miniatures by young artist Kolya Dykhne and steel sculpture by renowned Portuguese master Ruy Matos.
